Thanks for asking @Obelixx We had a sip just after we had soaked the leaves in Gin during the Spring, and it tasted good, but not that strong an Almond flavour. It is supposed to get better with age, and we plan on leaving it until Xmas to try it properly. I will keep you updated.
We picked 6kg of Sloes this year, so plenty of Sloe Gin to keep us happy, and Sloe Port and Sloe Whisky.
I had that with 5 gallons of blackberry wine on first fermentation. The kitchen looked like a chain saw massacre. It was Ok when I went to bed the night before. I sold the 5 gallon carboys, press and fermentation bin. I'm going to stick to buying from Tescos or whoever has the best offers. Does anyone want 20 x 1 gallon demijohns?
My brother-in-law turned some demijohns into cloches by tying a piece of string around near the bottom and setting it alight to remove the base. If I was in your area I'd take some off your hands and give it a go.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Fortunately the colour is light and there are no stains on the ceiling, floor or furniture. OH cleaned up his own mess and yes, I did go and check for missed sticky bits afterwards. He won't be forgetting the need to shake regularly in future.
I have some sloes somewhere in the freezer to make them burst more easily when I do stick them in some gin. Now I know I have sloes in the hedge round the paddock I'll just enjoy the blossom and fruits and let others make Trouspinette with the fresh shoots. Easy to buy here too.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
