Wood pigeons

Evening,

I have a wildflower area which is full of clover but unfortunately, wood pigeons are decimating the clover. I don’t mind the pigeons but I’d prefer it if they didn’t munch the clover and other young growth of plants in the area.

If I put seed out, would that divert them or should I just let them be?

 Thanks.

You will never be able to stop them short of completely covering the clover with pigeon proof netting or shooting them. They probably get out of bed earlier than you and will get in there at every opportunity. The only realistic option is to leave them be.

Our pigeons start on the flowers of plums, gages and cherries. Then they wait for the leaves to develop and decimate the trees.
They leave the pears and apples alone.
We have hung old cds into the trees and this has had a marginal success.
Agree with @steephill they are there very early in the morning before any slight breeze can make the cds move.
  • Ok, thanks. Certainly don’t want to shoot them so I’ll offer them some seeds to see if that helps a bit!

The clover will grow more leaves. It’s feeding the wildlife and costing you nothing. Your name is Wildlifelover .., 🤔

Wildlifelover  I rather think that, by offering seed, you'll probably end up with more pigeons, after which you'll be unable to withdraw the seed ration in case they emigrate in even greater numbers to your clover.
