What's is it

Is this a weed, bush, tree..... Have a hedge needs filling an not sure to remove the growing plants or not. I'm sure they are a weed. But I have big holes in the hedge to fill. What is this shall i remove it, I have a hedge with 2 rows I could plant them near the back an have laurel facing my garden. A field the other side is now a building site kids keep coming through to my garden blocking the holes in the hedge is needed fast.

Could be common elder tree or elderberry or elderflower never sure which is correct or maybe it's none of them!
Maybe putting up some chicken wire will deter them until your hedge is grown thick enough
  • Looks awfully like Elderberry to me too....very invasive, you might regret using it to fill the holes in your hedge.

I wouldn’t describe our native elder as invasive, but it’s not really going to keep inquisitive exploring youngsters out. I’d put some sturdy chicken wire against the hedge and then plant something thorny in the gaps ... Rosa canina or rugosa maybe, or even one of the thornier blackberries.  Give them plenty of water until they’re established.
