Supporting climbers

Hello,

I have a few climbers that I want to plant along my new fence. The fence consists of half a solid panel at the bottom and half a trellis panel at the top (total height is 2m).

I was thinking what kind of extra support I would need to add, probably to the bottom panel. I have vine eyes and wire that I can put, but how high should I go, and how should it be spaced?

    You don't say what sort of climbers you have.

    I have put wires and vine eyes about a foot apart on my fence.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Is this for your Clematis Montana?
    As was discussed on your other thread trellis may not last so maybe it would be advisable to wire across the trellis area as well

    I agree.  Tensioned wires on vine eyes at 30cm/12" intervals up the fence and across the trellis too.   Even if it's not all for your montana it will still help the trellis last longer.

    It's the montana but also some others (Clematis polish spirit and a honeysuckle). It's a long fence so I am thinking of even more.
