Geranium to shade the roots of Lonicera

I just planted Lonicera “Scentsation” in a very large container and I'm looking for something to plant at the base to shade the roots. I have several extra Geranium macrorrhizum “Czakor” that popped up last year and need to relocated. Would this hardy Geranium be a good choice?

I would be more inclined to mulch the container with something inert rather than introduce another plant that will fight for nutrients and water but if you must plant something to compete with the lonicera, maybe go for one of the shorter evergreen geraniums such as cantabrigiense.
