Cherry bush (porthos)

Iv purchased one and it has one main stem approx 22inches tall with 6/7 branches, wouldn't a bush have multiple stems from the base and a tree one stem, probably a silly question to some but not to others,
Any other information on the cherry porthos would be greatly appreciated,thankyou 🙂
