To cut or not to cut

I've overseeded my lawn to repair bare patches from the winter.  It's been down 2 weeks now and some are starting to shoot through and some still haven't appeared yet.

Unfortunately the rest of the grass is becoming very long and as much as I don't want to cut it, I think it's only going to get longer due to watering for the new seeds and they forecast rain from the weekend for a week and therefore maybe I should?

Just mow around the patches that have been reseeded. It won't look pretty but at least the new grass won't get sucked up into the mower blades.

yeah dunno if it's gonna be that easy unfortunately.  Most the seed I covered with topsoil but it's rained today anyway. I think I either take a gamble tomorrow when it's dry and then redo anything that doesn't grow or wait another week and it be even longer after a week's forecast of rain

You could always do 'no mow May' and let it all grow for a bit!

oh it would look horrendous and worried longer grass is not going to help the new grass

Can you adjust the height on your mower? If so, then cut it on a higher cut to trim the bits that are getting long.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
