Plant problem: Chaenomeles not growing.

This is the second spring that my chaenomeles speciosa moerloosei has just managed a few pale green leaves but then stops. Should I throw it away? Ive looked after it but seems a waste of a pot.

    It's probably not liking growing in a pot.  Is there anywhere you can plant it in the ground?

    I thought to try that  next but could there be a root issue?

    Unlikely, other than the possibility they may have dried-out in the pot at some point, or the compost ran out of nutrients and it wasn't fed.  Either way, if it is going to come back strongly, it'll have a much better chance of doing that in the ground.

    Thanks. Another site I just looked at advised against  growing them in pots so will put it in the ground asap.

    That plant has one foot in the grave! Tip it out and investigate immediately. My guess is that you won't find many - if any - roots alive. Check the compost for bugs, if you don't find any chomping, repot it and hope for the best.  It could have dried out or been waterlogged, frozen etc., etc.  Good luck.
