@Ruthmshaw you are torturing them!!! Do want them in containers or the ground? If they were young plants they might well take a year or two to flower, anyway. They need good compost, as above, plenty of sunshine and protection from extreme cold and regular feeding. If you dig them up to move or repot them they often won't flower till next year while they recover. Don't bin them, give them to someone who will appreciate their beauty.
I've given the leaves a trim where they were brown, soaked the rootball in a solution of rainwater and tomorite and potted them up snugly in pots where the rim goes out rather than in! They're against a south facing brick wall that gets sun from early morning until late afternoon. And between you and me I've spoken to them nicely and gently stroked the leaves, but that's just because I love plants and I want them to know it. Daft eh? The one at the front is my existing thinner leaved agapanthus that I've grown from seed planted about 4 years ago. It's never flowered but I think that's normal when grown from seed. Just imagine if they all flower this summer...
