Clear out rocks and debris for a new bed
I am in the process of creating a new bed where a shed used to be. The soil is not too compacted (I believe the builders dug out a lot in this area and then they filled it back again). The only problem is that it has lots of rocks and debris, they tried removing some of the large debris but still there are little pieces of tiles, or plastic.. and lots of rocks.
What is the best way to move forward? I can dig out the entire thing up to a certain depth and fill with new topsoil, but I was looking at something more practical. Can I just remove the top layer of rocks/debris, and then start removing things as I plant new plants?

There are lots of things to take into account here: is your garden on a slope (shed base might be acting as a sump for run off water); how deep is the sub base; what kind of plants were you thinking of planting. etc
Although it may seem easier in the short term just to dig a hole here and there and fill with soil and plants, I think in the long term you will have changed your mind about that being a good idea!
