White spots on hydrangea

SO bought a discounted supermarket hydrangea last spring which she replanted in a pot and kept on porch since. We are about to plant it but noticed these small white spots on a few of the leaves. Have had a look at the common hydrangea diseases but can't associate with any of those. Closest would be powdery mildew but back of leaves are clear. Perhaps I should cut the affected leaves anyway? Any ideas or suggestions?

Is it something you could try wiping off with a damp cloth?
If not that, then it looks like something was sprayed onto the plant as the leaves were just emerging from the buds
It doesn't look like any disease I've ever seen.
If it were mine I'd not be concerned

Have you watered it from above? If you have hard water it will leave white marks, especially if it dried in the sun. Looks healthy I would not take off the leaves until you are sure it will not just wipe off with a damp cloth.

Thank you @Pete.8 & @Jacquimcmahon you are both right. We live in chalky Hampshire so water is hard and it was watered from above though not in sun. It wiped off and now planted, just have to wait and see if it fills in the 2m or so spacing I have allocated for it as not sure which macrophilla variety it is. 🤞

Glad to hear it was nothing serious. Try to always water at the base only if you need to keed to water, I find the leaves get easily marked and if it gets nice and bushy water struggles to get through the foliage.

We started using the large watering can with a rose when the leaves bloomed so guess we need to buy a new can. Thanks for the tip
