Planting out tomato plants

Hi everyone! My tomato plants that I started from seeds indoors are getting quite big by now but I’m scared to plant them out too early... I live in the south of UK (southampton to be precise) and was thinking to acclimatise them outside for the 1st week of may and plant them out during second week... does that sound about right or is it too early? TIA

Mine won’t be going out until the end of May/early June. Far too cold before then unless we have a heatwave.

They need consistent temperatures of 15C and above.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Same as Nanny.

As my allotment plot suffers from strong wind....Oooh Matron...I erect a perspex wall about 18 inches high on two sides to give them some protection until they are agdults.

At least it's your allotments which has the wind,! Actually we often get a wind tunnel effect here, because of the proximity to the sea and South Downs,it's fairly sheltered Down in the veg plot. Now, the old man that's another story!!

Yes, I have a jungle-like sitting room (many are now over two feet high and in bud) but far too early to go out yet in SE London.
  • Thank you everyone, that’s what I was thinking, just need to be patient 😊

Are the roots showing through the holes in the pots? If they are, I would repot them.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

I  repot from the seed tray,   to 3inch pots, they will stay in them another month, be hardened off day and then night before going outside, have put the largest in a cold green house, because I am out of room. Not much help I know, but depends how many plants and how much room you have for them
