Peaceful Renewal

Hey Ya'll!

Love all your enthusiasm! I wonder if you could help me. I"m living in a cottage in Lafayette Ca, about to seed 144 sq ft with heat tolerant blue mix, partial shade grass. Just ordered a 16" tall garden Buddha to be mounted in the center open space of the fence about 5' up from the ground. I'm wondering what to plant along the fence and to the right side. Drought tolerant perennial? Thoughts, inspirations? ✨🎶🌼

    Hello, Fred and welcome. There are lots of friendly and helpful people on this site but most of us are in Britain with some in Europe and just a handful in the US. This doesn't mean they don't want to help but we don't have the local knowledge you need so you might do well to look around for someone nearer to your lovely state.

    It looks as if you've got Hedera helix along the white fence ... I'd extend that along the dark fence too ... there's not a lot of root space but  English ivy will be happy there ... you could cover both fences completely with ivy foliage, clip it close  and  leave a circle, square, arch or whatever around your Buddha .... it'd look great.

    Thanks SlipperyElm, that's an excellent suggestion! I love the color and who doesn't like a rambling shrub. :-)

    Thank you Dovefromabove. Happy plants are in demand these days (smile). Yeah, I wasn't sure about coverage but I like your idea. Also, I hadn't thought about different shapes so that's cool! In the words of Yoda, "Meditate on this, I will."

    It might interest you to know, Fred, that in the 2001 UK census nearly 1% of the population asserted they were Jedis in the question about religion. This outnumbered Judaism, Sikhism and Buddhism. How about putting up a statue of Chewbacca instead?
