Daffodil buds don't open

I have many daffodils both in the ground and in pots.  Most of them flower without any problems. However, this year, a number of those growing in pots have produced good sized healthy looking buds which then don't open, or buds that don't appear to have anything inside!  Weird and very disappointing!

    Could this be due to lack of water? It has been very dry in certain parts of the country and pot grown plants have needed watering on several occasions, which isn't normal at this time of year..

    You're probably right, I have been watering everything like mad, but obviously not enough!  It seems too much of a co-incidence for it to be anything else really.  Now I'm annoyed at myself for not taking better care!  :(  Thanks for your reply.  If anyone has any spare rain, can they send it south please?    :D
