Is there anything I can do for this convolvulus cneorum now?

I have a big old messy convolvulus cneorum.
I looked it up, and apparently it does not like pruning too much. It also said I should wait until it has finished flowering, then prune back hard around September time.
I'm wondering if there is anything I can do for it now - can I trim down the size a little, or is there anything else I can do for it? I started removing some dead stalks which left it looking a bit gappy.
Any help is much appreciated!

If you don't want to lose the flowers, l would leave it for now. According to the GW page on it, you can cut it back hard each year (although it doesn't say when 🙄).

You could try taking cuttings in the Summer as insurance.

Thank you, very much appreciated. I think i will leave it then to flower, and not even trim it now. I will put up with a messy look and prune it back hard after flowering, maybe September time.
