URGENT HELP - Dying Ficus Benjamina

I have a Ficus Benjamina thats been slowly dying. I'm new to gardening and not sure what to do.

Over the last 3 months it has been shedding all of its leaves, about 1 month all the leaves were gone. I assumed it was going dormant as i know the tree can get stressed easily.

However the tree branches have slowly started dying (brittle) and today I noticed it has spread half way down the tree trunk.

On the top half of the trunk the wood is squidgy and the bark comes off easily the bottom half is still solid and live. Pics attached

I have continued to water it every 2 weeks when the top soil is dry. I have also tried fertiliser once a month since March.

I love this tree, Is there anyway to save it or is it too late?

I'm afraid that looks like deceased ficus.  I have had mine for nearly 40 years and it never loses all its leaves at once or has squidgy wood so I think you need to bin it along with its compost then wash the pot thoroughly.

If you get a new one keep it in a different place.

Did you keep it moist, not too hot and dry, they can be devils, even suddenly deciding they don't like a draught
