Soil prep for flowers

Hi everyone, I have a patch of dry section of the garden where I intend to grow some simple, most widespread  seasonal flowers. It’s poor soil so I wondered what do I need to enrich it with - does it have to be manure or can I go with some type of compost?

    You can use compost or  well rotted manure (so that it's like peat) or even coir to add to soil. That will aid water retention. If you mix it in the top few inches, rake well and then sow. Give it some water on a fairly regular base until the seeds germinate.

    You could sow a wildflower mix there are some lovely mixed available,they don't all look too "casual" and "field" like also nice for cut flowers,and if you are really lucky and have really rubbish soil,they will be self seed
