Skinny sloping border.

I have a very skinny border at the edge of my lawn and it has gradually crept higher and higher at the back while trying to keep the edge of the lawn trimmed. It's awkward to plant as the front of the plant is at a different level to the back. I am planting on a slope basically and it doesn't look good for the plants. We are talking about a 2 foot border. How can I repair it so it is back to level again without destroying existing plants? Any ideas?

Think we need a photo. Take it landscape as then it loads right. If portrait slightly crop it before loading using the mountain icon
