Magnolia x loebneri Leonard Messel not flowering well

Hello all.
I have a lovely magnolia x loebneri 'Leonard Messel' in a large pot on the NW facing patio of my garden. It is against a wall and has been in the same pot for 2/12 years. It has always flowered beautifully (though last year those cold westerly winds in late April gave the blooms a bit of a battering). This year however, it only appears to have three flower pods opening; the rest of the buds look very much like leaves, albeit healthy ones.

Is it normal for a magnolia to have a year where it does not flower so well, or is it something I am not doing right? It is in all purpose peat free compost and I top dress with rotted manure in February. I have been watering it well since the spring dry weather came.

Thanks.

I would give it a soluble  ericaceous feed once a week through the summer.  This years flowering depends on how it was last summer.  If it was allowed to dry out for extended periods, it will damage this years buds.
