Holes in lawn

Came this morning to find my lovely mown lawn covered in about 3 dozen holes each with turf scratched up and a two to three inch inch hole each about 2 inches deep no droppings. We are in the middle of the countryside.

    Hello.
    Could these be mining bees?
    We have them in our wildlife lawn.

    Any chance of a photo of the damaged lawn? It could help to identify the culprits.
