What a lot of effort has gone into your border prep. I fi were a plant I'd be itching to get my feet in there.
Thanks!  Yes, has been a bit of a marathon, starting with removing about five cubic meters of builders rubble.  The cedar slat fence on the right and the hole for the inground trampoline were projects that took me a good few days too!    Some plants have arrived already with the rest of them arriving next week, so can't wait to get planting!!

And re your Stachys 'Hummelo' does it just not flower well or does the foliage have problems too?  Pictures I've seen online looks like it has attractive foliage...

It flowered perfectly well after planting but after that the plant just didn't look happy. I have moved it in the hope it enjoys a different spot but I may take it out. I have the same problem with Liatris spicata.

Nothing to add re density of planting but I just want to say that border looks fantastic!  Can't wait for you to show it again with some plants growing in it.  And hope the kids don't jump off the trampoline into the plants.  Good idea to have the stepping stones - I bet the children loved helping make those.

  • What did you use for the stepping stones exactly? I need some, just want foot sized concrete slabs  - I've mainly been looking at large stones/rocks I've dug up but they're not always too flat.

Thanks @didyw.  Will put prickly and poisonous plants along the edge of the trampoline to discourage them!   B)

Re the stepping stones, I couldn't find anything quite the right size other than some granite ones for an extraordinary price.  So I made them one weekend using some strips of wood, strips of bitumen sheet I had, duct tape and rental of a concrete mixer.  Cheap and very happy with the way they turned out!

Some pics of work in progress:

Could post this and some more detail in a separate thread if anyone thinks others would be interested.
  • Oh wow! That's dedication. My bed isn't big enough to warrant doing that, but they look really good.
