growing osmos from seed

I am growing white Cosmos from seed, it's my first attempt at anything like this.  They are all flourishing and look very healthy, I have lots of them.  I just wondered when the flower head would appear, I feel I will be left with a lot of greenery which will still look attractive when put out in garden.  I am growing them indoors on window ledge.  I know I have to start putting them outdoors occasionally but not sure when to do this.  Any advice would be  most welcome.

they're tall plants, so the flowers are a long way off yet, but well worth the wait.

they cannot go into their final growing place till after the last frost, mine have now graduated from the conservatory to the cold greenhouse (little tubular heater in there for the citrus) have been putting them outside during the day, because I have so many seed trays it's easier to water. If we get no more frosts at the end of May, they will stay out overnight, usually a week, then out they go, yes Hosta is correct, long way off flowering

Cosmos aren't hardy and they like warmth. Plant them outside when the risk of frost is over, depends where you live. From sowing to flowering takes about 3 months so plants sown early April should start flowering from early July. Then they will have lots of flowers, if you deadhead them, until autumn frosts.

  • Thankyou all.  I have enjoyed growing them and hope they turn out to be successful and flower.  If not the foliage is very attractive!

Don’t be tempted to feed them, you will just get more green and no flowers.

  • I have just been checking my Cosmos and noticed that 3 are producing buds.  I have been reading up about pinching out, I have not done this.  They are all very tall now but look very healthy.  Is it too late to pinch out and if not any tips?  I didn't really expect flowers until after I had started putting them outside to get them used to colder temperatures but I am waiting in case of a late frost.
