Salvia Amistad

I planted salvia amistad in my gravel garden last year. It did really well but there are no signs of it returning. I have left last year's stems so far. Any advice?

On another gardening forum I look at this question was asked and over half of the respondents said their salvias had yet to show any signs of growth (which is my experience too). We practise optimism as gardeners.

I leave the previous years stems too so I know where they are.
I've had them in the ground here for about 6 years, I think it's usually mid-May at the earliest before I see any sign of growth. Usually the slug trails cause me to notice the nibbled shoots! :)
They are late starters, but once they get going they grow very fast. Mine get to 6-7ft

  • Thank you that's very reassuring. I shall hang on longer.

I would count yourself lucky they are still safely tucked away, mine came out early after warm March weather, then the frost got them!

Mine has a few new shoots/leaves. I agree it’s quite slow to get started, so wouldn’t worry at this point

Mine in Lincs is showing no signs at all.

They do spark really easily and grow fast from cuttings. I took two “insurance” cuttings last October year both are now 3 ft tall
