Shade or not shade?

There's a part of my border which gets full sun for a good part of the day during summer, but which is in pretty much full shade the rest of the year, including spring. If a plant needs 'full sun' or 'partial sun' is it ok for this spot given it'll get the sun it needs in the summer months, or is it a bad idea because during the spring it's shady?

It doesn't matter how much sun a plant gets while it's dormant, so full-sun perennials and shrubs which leaf out in April/May should be fine. They may come on a bit later because the soil will be colder. In terms of perennials that do their thing in spring, maybe go for partial shade lovers especially if they will be shaded out by later, taller perennials and shrubs.
