Can I move an Euphorbia x Martinii now?

I have an euphorbia that is beginning to come back to life after winter, can I move it now? Does anyone grow this type in partial shade (at the moment is in full sun) Thank you  :)

  • Hi. The euphorbia you mention is evergreen so I'm a bit worried by the "coming back to life" statement. Do you mean it's putting on new growth?

The answer to your question is best answered by knowing how long it's been in the ground. In my experience, many euphorbias produce a deep tap root, rendering them difficult, if not impossible, to successfully move after establishment. If it's been in its spot under a year it may be worth trying, but be prepared to buy a new plant.

I'm growing Euphorbia x martinii 'Ascot Rainbow' in partial shade but it is less happy than its full sun relatives.

Thank you. It has been there for about 5 years and I cut it right back last summer, so yes it is new growth. Mmmm maybe I should think again. :)
