Recommend an upright fuchsia?

I have a large pot, 40cm wide 40cm deep that I'm thinking about putting a fuchsia in.  I know fuchsias can come in varieties for hanging baskets, or upright versions but I don't know a lot about the different types.  Ideally I'd like one that grows tall but not too wide.  Any suggestions?

Best to go and see what's in the garden centres near you so you can choose a colour and form that suits you or else go online and order from there.

Fuchsias come in many colour combos and some have fine, delicate flowers whilst others have fat, blousy ballerina frock style flowers.  All a matter of taste.

I've tried searching online but it's tricky to differentiate the hanging ones from the upright ones so I'm asking for advice.  I could go to a garden centre but I would have a more limited choice.  If I can figure out which ones would fit the criteria I can order online.

If the description says it's hardy, chances are it's upright.  The trailing ones are tender and need shelter over winter, even here.

Specialist nurseries will state clearly what they are and also give advice if needed

I will recommend one for you... my husband used to be a Fuchsia grower, and we always loved this one in particular, which is also grown at Great Dixter and was loved by the late Christopher Lloyd..

It is sold either as 'Enfant Prodigue' or 'Prodigy'...  it is one fabulous upright, hardy Fuchsia.... best of luck with your choices..
