Plant ID please

edited April 2021 in Plants
Hi, first of many questions from a couple of new gardeners! What is this plant please, and what should we do to save it? We have just pulled it from an overgrown border and looks too big for its pot! Thanks. Nick

Looks like it needs a thorough watering and then you can re-pot or plant it out.

If you re-pot you can use that same pot.  Water thoroughly then remove form the pot and give that good clean.  Add some crocks to the base to keep drainage holes clear then add a few inches of fresh loam based compost such as John Innes no 3.  tease the roots out a bit to stop them going round and round then replace in the pot and fill the gaps round the sides.  leave an inch or so spare at the top to aide watering.

Keep it watered whenever the compost feels dry and feed every spring with a slow release fertiliser and you'll have a happy fatsia.

The only other thing I would add is that they like partial/full shade not bright sun - they tend to burn.
  • Much appriciated! Thanks 🙂
