Thoughts on planting out my sunflowers now?

My Russian Giant Sunflower seedlings are about 30-40cm tall already and I’m keen to plant them out rather than pot them on.
We go away next week and I doubt they’ll last much longer in their current pots.
Any experience on how they’ll do planted out this time of year?
For reference I stay in Glasgow.

Can you give them to someone to look after for a week?
I wouldn't even plant them out down here.

Sunflowers are hardy but susceptible to slugs and need lots of water. They'll do better outside with sun light.

According to the weatherman at lunchtime, more cold weather to come next weekend 🙄, so l wouldn't plant them out any time soon, sorry.

Ok, I take it back. Apologies. My self-seeding sunflowers come up from early spring. But perhaps that's odd.

The packet of sunflower seeds that I have says to plant direct in their flowering position in April /May. I'm holding off for a bit until night time temps rise a little (and also because I don't really know where I'm going to squeeze them in).
  • I have that space issue too @Suesyn :D I'm just refusing to acknowledge it. My sunflowers are getting way too tall but I guess I can't risk the  outdoors yet.

My husband likes sunflowers and I don't. I will should have sown them weeks ago and they'd be just about ready to plant out now👺

  • Thank you for all your input.
I’ve going to have a bash at planting some out now and if they die I have plenty of back ups....I’ll let you know how I get on 🌻
