Sad Magnolia

My husband bought me this beautiful magnolia, which he planted for my birthday at the beginning of March.  It was fine for a couple of weeks, but now has brown flowers and buds, and the leaves which were emerging are going brown too :(  Could it be that the late frost got it, but it's still alive, or is it dying?  If so, is there anything I can do to help it?  It's in a sunny, sheltered spot.  Thanks for any advice - I feel a bit depressed that I might have killed it.

Frost and the sun hitting it first thing.
Next year when frost is forecast some horticultural fleece over it will protect.
    It will recover.

  • @K67 Thank you very much.  I'm a novice so good to have some advice from more experienced gardeners.

I have one that looks a bit like that. It's this late, persistent frost after a relatively mild winter. I have never had to use fleece on mine, a light frost doesn't affect it but this year has been exceptional.
