Dead looking Jasmine - help!

Hi, I bought a large Jasmine to year to grow and cover an unsightly leylandi. I trimmed the flowers off after blooming, all seemed well until winter when the leaves started turning brown/black then drying up & crumbling off.

Ive called 2 different garden centres for advice, 1 thought it was fighting for nutrients & dint like the east facing position, the other said fungal & to spray it but not what type. My dad says just to cut it back down :(

I have removed it & replanted into a pot with new soil & moved to a more sheltered south facing position.

It looks dead, isn’t growing but appears to still be alive under the bark. I bought 2 small ones at the same time, 1 of which turned the same so I cut back, but it didn’t survive & the other I’ve left alone, but it’s leaves are turning same way.

Any advice please? Before & after pics below. Thx.

Hi - I think this is a combination of things. The first garden centre was probably right. The Leylandii suck all the nutrients and particularly water out of the soil, so you would need to have watered it very thoroughly and fed it regularly. Also, Trachelospermum like it warm and sunny, so the position probably wasn't ideal. We've also had some late overnight frosts recently, which will have caused some damage.

So now you've moved it, my advice is for the two you have left is water thoroughly and give some slow release fertiliser. If they are both in pots, you will need very large pots eventually, and some structure other than bamboo canes for them to grow up.

This article is very helpful, and includes a video of Monty Don repotting one of his:

    Good luck!
  • Thx so much for your advice, I will keep on with the feed & watch the Mighty Monty video :)
