Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can tell me if the attached picture is a foxglove as I have been hoping since seeing it come up several weeks ago...!?!?

Thank you in advance,
Aidan. :)

@Dovefromabove thank you. I was really hoping so... we had one pop up in our border last year and this year I can see at least 20... quite amazing!

They have thousands of seeds and spread wonderfully given the opportunity.  Love them  :)

Definitely a foxglove  one of my favourite plants! My garden is covered in young plants that have popped up from last year

@gardenman91 such a treat when so unexpected!

I am slightly saddened that I have just read that they won’t flower the first year mind you... I shall have to be patient!

Can’t help but pick up on the 91 in your name, would that be 1991? Also that you’re from Brighton... I was born in 91 and am originally from Brighton! 😀

    Hi everyone,

Not sure if anyone will see this on here now but I’m wondering if there is any way of telling what type of fox glove are growing in my garden and if they will flower this year as I understand most flower in their second year...

I’ve attached a picture of them now, they’re certainly growing and I’m wondering if what I can see on the top is actually the flowers developing?

    Thank you all :)

    Aidan.

Yes , that is a flower bud developing. Purple stems usually produce purple flowers.  It could be Digitalis mertonensis, but without seeing the flowers, impossible to tell.

Hi @fidgetbones - oh fantastic thank you so much for getting back to me, I’m thrilled, I couldn’t stand the idea of having to wait another year, the excitement was killing me!!

    Hi all,

I was beyond excited when the fox gloves finally started to flower… and then… the unimaginable… heavy winds snapped some in half :(

Is that the end? Or can I maybe expect it to shoot up and flower again? Should I cut it down or anything?!

    I’m devastated!

You won't get another tall spike but you should get small side shoots which will flower.
