How to rescue small plug plants

I bought plug plants for the first time recently (geum mrs bradshaw) and merrily popped them in the flower border. I only read later that you're supposed to pot them up first and nurture them a bit before planting out. So they're in the border and they're not dead, but they're not showing any signs of growth either. Maybe it's just too soon in the year to expect that? Or should I get them out of the border and give them some love in small pots before returning them to the outside?

Any advice would be welcome.

Without seeing a picture of the geums, I am assuming that they are still very small. They need to be potted up so that they can grow a decent root system and bulk out before they are exposed to the great outdoors. They will be struggling to survive in the present nighttime temperatures so keep them in a frost free place and plant them out when the danger of frost has passed.

Did you unravel all the roots when you planted them,  plug plants can sometimes very tangled up, planting them like that they will continue to just curl around in the same snaps.
They're hardy plants,  hopefully they’ll be ok,  if the roots very teased out,  but Mrs Bradshaw grow very easily from seed, you could get a packet and sow a few just in case.
