Rat Burrow?

Hello all, I wondered if you could help. I have just looked out the window to see this, which looks to me like a rat burrow... but I can’t be sure. What is everyone’s thoughts?! It’s about the diameter of a football, I can’t quite bring myself to get too close but it looks pretty deep! Has appeared in the last 24 hours!

    Diameter of a football? To me seems too big for a rat.

    i would say fox or badger. 
    Any in the vicinity? What sort of area are you in?
    ang chance of getting a night-time trail camera rigged up?

     @Dovefromabove Yes it’s a large hole, I was concerned it would be rats. We are in quite a rural area, so could be foxes, from google I thought it looked more like a rat burrow. I have to say I will be very pleased if it is not!! No rats in the area that I am aware of... I have never seen one before actually!

    There seems to be two holes, one smaller then the other @bertrand-mabel

    Bit too small for fox or badger, too big for rat, probably rabbits.
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    My first thought would be one of our dogs.....   

    I'd be glued to the window watching for a fox or whatever .please let us know what your sharing your garden with.

    @granma I certainly will! I don’t have a dog, a toddler but it wasn’t him! Note why I’m worried about the possibility of rats. 

    I am sat here now watching as it’s dark, but nothing so far. There are no droppings, some small tracks but really hard to make out what they might be. 

    I have someone coming to investigate tomorrow so I will update everyone.

    Update! This morning we have two holes!!!!! Awaiting someone to come out and see what is going on! Any other thoughts now there is a small and a large hole?

    Hello all! An update ... it’s a fox den! 

    We are in the middle of completely re landscaping the garden and the opportunists have decided that would be a good place to make a den. Anyone have any experience with having a fox den so close to their house? I have small children so I am a bit worried but I also don’t want to ruin their home. Rats I would not have felt the same about but foxes I don’t mind so much.
