Pond liner repair

Large thick roots have punctured our pond liner in a few places, even as far down as 2 ft from surface of water.  The liner went in about 10 years ago.  Would anyone recommend trying to repair, as there are quite a few puncture holes (large pond 10 ft x 8 ft x 3 ft deep) or should we bite the bullet and buy new liner?  We did put down old carpet, obviously not thick enough !

    Welcome to the Forum.
My thought is that so long as the roots are still there, the problem will repeat.

  • We had assumed roots would turn against the liner and grow outside it if they appeared.  The pond is nowhere near trees.  Duh!   We will obviously have to sit down and consider whether we keep the pond.  Thank you for replying so quickly, much appreciated.
