plug plants not rooting

My plug plants received about 3 weeks ago were duly potted but are not showing signs of new root growth. They are in cold greenhouse which has sun all day, then heated at night. Too impatient? Not had this problem before.

How do you know they are not rooting?

Did they not have roots on when you bought them?

Yes they did have roots and I have very carefully tipped one out of its pot.

What sort of plants are they?  I find begonia plugs (for example) take weeks and weeks after planting in 7cm pots to start rooting into the compost in a cold GH.  I don't generally grow them now, but had better results when they were put somewhere with less temperature variation (indoor windowsill or conservatory.)

Did they have those 'teabag' type containers?
If they did, it is worth lifting them and very carefully removing the teabags with scissors, before replanting. They are supposed to rot down, but don't, and only very vigourous plants can escape them. Often if a plant is failing, I find it is because of them. They are usually fairly obvious on plugs, but if you buy ready potted plants they are sometimes sneakily buried under the soil :#

When you buy those tiny plugs they usually have the roots going round and round in a bit of tangle, you have to carefully untangle and free them before planting.  I started off here with J.Parkers plugs, the roots were in a very tight ball they have to be freed up for them to grow.

Thank you everyone, I have done as Buttercup suggested and there are tiny roots appearing. I must be more patient. They have now gone to bed under fleece and the heater will switch on automatically.Need these temperatures at night to go back to normal.
