Conifer die back

Any ideas on what's causing this? Will it recover? And is there anything I should do thanks.
There is green beneath the brown patches. I wondered if it was weather related.

    That doesn't look good. Conifers don't tend to come back from this sort of thing.....you can't snip them back and expect to get new growth.
