New lawn problems

Just had new lawn laid with a french drain under - its 6 weeks now and there are odd 1 ft square patches of muddy bog - so much so your foot can sink in the wet turf but the main lawn area is totally dry ? One company have come to give advice and say i should have it ALL dug up and start again - £10,000 ! Another  team say leave it and it will dry out ? Any thoughts anyone

  • Sounds awful, you may want to add some photos to get some informed responses. Lawn queries come thick and fast this time of year but let's see if anyone can help.

  • That looks like awful growing conditions. Makes you wonder what ground prep they did before laying the turf. You could try to aerate the lawn but this is something you do with a properly established lawn. Hope someone can advise further as my partner deals with the lawn, so I'm not exactly interested in the upkeep.

  • This was old
lawn lifted and a french drain put down , shingle , drain pipes, membrane , shingke , sand top soil and this has happened in pockets - so strange ? Just wondered if anyone else has seen this ? And how to resolve rather than spend another 10 grand re doing whole lawn !

Are the boggy squares in any way related to the layout of the drains? Something obviously isn't working as it should. And have you gone back to whoever did the work? If they are reputable they should at least try to put it right. And if they don't, some bad reviews are in order I think!

  • Theyve told me its natural ground settling and i have to leave it to settle but im not happy and want see what other professionals think .. does this sound like the right advice ? Leave it and see ?  Or should they dig and investigate - im just a customer saying they should investigate so if i can get professionals saying its wrong it will give me some backing to show them the squares are just 1 foot soaked squares but then its bone dry all around the squares ?
