I have had this nectarine tree just over a year. It’s been in the conservatory since December. I noticed it’s first leaves shrivelled up but more recent ones seem ok. I wonder if I just let it get too dry or if it has the dreaded peach curl? No signs of red spots anywhere nor lesions on the bark that might suggest canker. Any advise appreciated!
If your conservatory is anything like mine (double-glazed but unheated), it's probably not liking the huge temperature swings between day and night (mine has been getting up to 40C and down to 5C over recent days.) I would be putting it outside during dry days (avoid the rain as that is what carries the Peach Leaf Curl fungus) and bringing back in each night.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
I have a similar problem. Just moved into a new house last Dec. and inherited a greenhouse that had one solitary plant, a nectarine. I believe it has been there for a decade or two and is espalier style on the rear wall. The photo was taken about two months ago and there are now many more leaves on it shown on another photo taken today, but three of the branches have little or nothing on them. Only three flowers appeared and looks like there will be no fruit. What should I have done to look after it better? I have it ready for planting fruit trees as of today, the painting may wait until next winter... just hadn't the time to get both greenhouses ready this year.
Sorry to hear about your magnificent greenhouse tree Tagwex! I have another problem- some white orange coating on my tree. I was optimistic as it grew more leaves in the middle but the branches are now covered with this white and orange gunky stuff. Thinking I should chop the branches off and hope for healthy regrowth next year? I can’t find anything similar googling. Any ideas Bob? Thanks Rachel ps. either side of the nectarine are one apricot that has loads of leaves and one that has just a few, now shrivelled! No sign of the gunk on these but I should probably separate them...
Thank you very much Bob. Will perhaps chop all the branches off at the end of the weekend when it looks like we have a few dry days following for it to heal, and hope for the best.
