Shorn off branch

Hi Newbie here, posting as heartbroken this morning. Planted a Actinidia Kolomikta last year. Something (a cat I suspect) has broken off one of the top branches last night as it was fine yesterday evening. Photos show. I really don't know about how to encourage new growth, will I just cut below the bit that has severed off and hope for the best?  :( . Any advice really appreciated, was so upset this morning! Many thanks x

You need to use a sharp, clean pair of secateurs to make a neat cut on that stem, taking it back to just by the main stem.  This will make a clean wound that can heal more easily and reduce the likelihood of infection by pathogens.

There is plenty of other healthy growth so I would expect the plant to recover and make new stems, especially if you give it an encouraging drink laced with liquid tomato fertiliser.
