morning everyone. My friend has this plant growing in the pot with her carnation. What plant is it please ? is it a weed is it a carnation?

There's a bit of carnation hanging over the edge of the pot, middle of the picture, but the rest is something else. Maybe red valerian, Centranthus ruber.

Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
