    Lupin? Mine certainly has an impressive taproot as i discovered when I dug a hole to plant something over 1m away from it!

    @Lyn I had these at my previous home. Seeing the advice handed out online about digging and storing the tuber for winter, I found a similar huge one. After that, I left it in the ground and it  sprouted and flowered year after year.

    @Eustace. Same here, never dug them up,  the ground has frozen 4” deep at times, they still come up every year.

    I hadn't a clue what it was. Will you be re-planting that one too when you've refreshed the soil?

    Yes Lizzie, I’ve put him back now. 
    I need to get the others out and do the same, they are quite late shooting here, or maybe that’s the same everywhere.
