Growing cayenne and habanero in the UK

Hi

I am growing from seeds some cayenne and habanero peppers. I have little faith it will go ahead as the uk weather might not be hot enough for them. 

Have you grown any of them in the uk? If so, are they spicy enough? Maybe they grow but not so spicy

    They need a long growing season and plenty of light but you can safely place them outside for summer once it's warm enough and that depends on whereabouts you are in the UK.   Keep them appropriately fed and watered and bring them back in to finish once temperatures drop again.

    Yea we grew both of these last year and growing them again this year. Seeds went in in Feb, in the airing cupboard for a week until germination, right now the plants are say around 3 - 4 inches high. They love heat and being kept on the dry side, not too big a pot. Last year they were in a sunny dining room in front of the patio door till about the start of May then they went into a greenhouse in the allotment for the rest of the summer. From what I remember from last year the cropping and spice level was ok but yes they do need a long growing season. Personally I wouldn't consider putting them outside anywhere in the UK but if you can do that successfully then lucky you!

    Thanks both. I just sowed the seeds today so i get im a little late?

    I live in south east, i was planning to grow them outdoors but now im not sure... Last year i grown peppers and it went well, not sure if it means chillies will grow well too

    Nope, I grow my chillies in a polytunnel here altho last year was a dead loss thru lack of plants - no plant fairs with specialist growers and no decent seeds here.   This year I made sure I had fresh seeds from specialists and have sown several varieties.

    Have to wait and see now.

    I grow mine outside during the summer months and they don't do too badly.
