Growing carrots and spinach in the shade?

Does anyone know if carrots and spinach would do ok in almost full shade? I have a small garden and would like to use every scrap of space if I can. That area only gets about an hour of sunshine in the evenings. I've read that both will do ok in part shade but I don't want to plant them in almost full shade there if there's no chance of them growing.

I would say to try the spinach but forget about carrots there, leafy greens do better in shade that anything else and at midsummer lettuce and spinach last much longer before trying to flower if they get some shade at midday
