What would you do with this bay tree?

    That makes sense. It doesn't actually get that much narrower at the top. The photo is a bit deceiving. It's a lot bigger than it looks too . I might be lucky getting it out.
    I don't buy that kind of shape any more.

    Well,I put the bay tree into a large container which should last it a few years.
    It's sprouting loads of buds and it's a good shape but I've realised that if I'm to make up for the years of neglect, it's going to need a brutal pruning.
    I know how to keep them in shape, I've been doing it for decades with the favoured one, but I've never had to hard prune one before and I'm not sure when to do it.
    Do I do it now while it's growing well or leave it until the winter?

    PS I don't intend to cut/ saw into any of the main branches, just pretty much denude it of twigs
