Invasive plant identification please

I have an unoccupied house next to mine and an invasive plant has grown in my garden from theirs. Does anyone know what it is and what I could do about it? Thanks.

    I think it's one of these -

They pop up in my garden now and then - courtesy of the birds that eat the berries.
They do taste of nutmeg too, I've tried them

Hello and welcome to the forum 😊

That looks like Leycesteria formosa aka Himalayan honeysuckle

A lovely garden plant and great for wildlife ... pollinators love the flowers and birds love the berries. That’s probably how the seeds arrive in your garden.

The seedlings are pretty easy to recognise and remove as part of a normal garden routine before they grow large, so not usually a problem.

    Hope that helps 😊

  • That’s great to know. Thanks both for your comments.
A builder had said they thought it was Japanese knotweed and I panicked. Now I can just enjoy it and good to know the birds like it!

I wouldn't call it invasive as it only grows from seed. If you don't want it should be straightforward to remove.

You are better starting your own discussion @Nancy33 but if you type ground elder into the search box at the top of the main page there are lots of threads dealing with this.

I agree - Roundup (generically - glyphosate) should sort out ground elder
But you need to be patient.
Once sprayed it can take a couple of weeks before you see growth dying back.
It is absorbed through the leaves and becomes inactive when it hits the soil.
