Winter Daphne

My Winter Daphne has clusters of very small growths along its stems. I'm wondering if they're normal growth or problematic growth. It bloomed beautifully and looks healthy.

Hard to tell as picture goes blurred when you zoom in but one website mentions scale insects which cover themselves in a hard waxy coat but says leaves and stems so doubtful.
Depends if the growth is plant or insect.
It looks more plant like to me though if that's the case and it's still healthy I can't see you can do anything as they don't like being pruned.
This is the link here https://gardening.yardener.com/Problems-Of-Daphne
A photo of the whole plant would help.
Has it been dropping any leaves?

Is it what's left after the flower petals have fallen? If it is, they should develop into berries.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • I appreciate your help. I think it might be where the flower petals grew out of the stem in previous season, but I've never seen berries on it.
It's about 3' by 3', surrounded by some ginger and epimedium.
I've attached 4, hopefully clearer, photos.

It look very healthy so I feel Jenny is probably right.
  • Whew!
    Thank you all!
I know it's not a good idea to get attached to Daphnes, but I do love this one and I see it coming and going every day.
Leicestershire, the link you provided container a wealth of good information about Winter Daphne's. I learned not to fertilize it, which I never have.  I use Leafgro and I mulch. Here's hoping that's the key to keeping it happy.
