Ideas to fill a gap in a lavender plant

I'm not sure what to fill this gap with in a lavender plant. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Once a lavender's got that old and woody, the best plan is to dig it out and replace it with a new young one. If you want to keep it, you could stand something in a pot in front of it (possibly another lavender) but I think it would be hard to establish something in the ground close enough to hide the woody part.
