Compost egg or fungus growth

Does anyone know what this is growing on the compost. It's a new bag I have just bought and appears mainly on the small pieces of wood. At first I thought insect eggs but now wondering if it is a fungus. Can it affect the plants? Thank you in advance for any answers.

Little cup-shaped fungus ... not a problem ... they're just the reproductive phase of the fungi that are breaking down the organic matter in the compost  into a form that can be accessed by your plants.
