Is This Canna Virus?

Hi,

Can anybody diagnose why this canna lily doesn’t look its Sunday best, please. It is getting a little rain outdoors but is normally kept indoors on a south-facing windowsill. I’m very worried it’s got virus but hoping it’s not and there’s something I can do to improve the health of the plant.

  • It's too early in the season frankly. Mine are stored in a plastic greenhouse and they have just broken dormancy and have stopped growing because of the cold snap. Just protect it from frost and will grow really fast when the weather warms up but make sure you pot it up and feed it really well.

Canna virus usually shows itself by pale streaks in the leaves ... I can't see any there at the moment.

Did it have that leaf damage indoors?  Has it been in a dry situation ... or near a radiator?

    Hi Dovefromabove,

Yep the leaves started coming much earlier in the year and it is kept right by a radiator. I’m guessing they prefer humidity, would you recommended moving it?

I'd keep in in good light indoors away from a radiator ... ours usually overwinter in the dark of a frostfree garage and come into the light in our studio in March ... but temps in the higher teens are plenty ... keep it away from dry heat.

@Hostafan1 is my Go To for canna advice.  :)

That’s great advice thank you. And I’ll have a rummage if @Hostafan1 has any more tips and tricks.
