    Peony possibly.

Peony, coming up through ivy with a bit of aquilegia in front (at the right hand side).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • See how the peony performs, if it was mine I'd remove the ivy as they appreciate getting as much sun as possible to their tubers for maximum number of blooms.

I agree, get as much ivy out as you can. It also looks like it's near a conifer (hedge?) which is less than ideal. Contrary to popular belief, peonies can be moved if you have a more suitable place for it, just don't plant it deep.

@JennyJ @amancalledgeorge @pitter-patter thank you everyone! I did wonder if it was the peony re-growing 😊 it grew there last time away from the conifer and our in a lovely show! I’ll tackle that ivy then 👍 thanks!
